Well what can I say, now in its 2nd year and bigger and better than the year before, more pubs joining in, lots more breweries showcasing their fine ales, more shops organising beer tasting and food matching. 2 pub walks as well thrown in, new breweries opening also.
I decided to book 4 days off work so I wont have to go back into work, then my hangovers can recover which, surprisingly I didnt have, maybe I was pacing myself all week, plus also on the same time was BeerX the annual Siba festival of beers.
This week was about trying something new.
So what did I attend, where do I start, best start on day 1:
Day 1 – Saturday 12th March – True North Brew opening Sheffield Beer Week, not tried their ales much and quite liked, nice looking brewery as well.
I also the week long Manchester ales from Broadfield, I never tried these before so a nice change, I wish this pub would re-arrange their bar pumps and put the ales pumps together, it does annoy me.
Trip down to Picture Social House for the beer cocktails, I have never had these before and they were certainly different, maybe a new thing here, who knows, but it was interesting, would I have known they were beer cocktails if no one told me, probably not, nice pub as well. There was also a cocktail twitter hour.
Tried the London ales in the Shakespeare, again something new and love this pub, could do well in my POTY2016. Also tried some Buxton beers as well including a 10% one which was interesting.
Atom ales were next to try, I have seen some of these before, this was at the Sheffield Tap who put one several events. They have a great back room for such events.
Tuesday had not even started yet.
Something new next, ale in a can from Fourpure at Sheffield Tap again, thsi event was packed to the edges, still not sure if this is something I like, still get the fizzly taste from a can, probably wont grow on me yet, I am just only getting used to keg, so one thing at a time.
I did go to the Tap and Tankard to meet the brewery but they were late so left as I was on a tight schedule.
Off to New Barrack Tavern for some wine ale which was again something new, this did taste of wine, so is this going to take off, time will tell, the whole pub had new ales on and the locals were enjoying the 10% stout, they were not used to this in such a fine pub, a buffet was also put on and also music in the other room, my favourite event of the week. A trip to BeerX was earlier in the evening to get a taste.
Thursday was an incredibly busy day for events so went to Bath hotel for the Thornbridge revealing of their Irish Stout which was excellent, but then again its Thornbridge, I did try some Tiny Rebel ales from the night before MTB, unfortunately Thornbridge MTB was over 50 minutes late so had to leave as it was back to BeerX for more ales. (the tram comes in handy)
By Friday I was struggling so had a day of rest.
Saturday was a day at BeerX for the rugby matches and to try even more ales, loved the breweries yard and great food.
Sunday was the last day of SheffBeerWeek and was down at Sentinel Brewhouse and tried some of their ales, and also joined in on the twitter hour with Steel City Brewing and sampled some of their ales and had a good old chat with some people.
…. and that was it … another year gone and was a great week long events … roll on 2017
Below are a few pictures of my week.
