This pub walk was done in April 2019 and was planned to do months and months ago but never got round to it so April was a good time to do this.
Castleton and Hop pub crawl …. how do you get there .. Bus No 271/272 are the best ones from Sheffield Interchange, the journey is about an hour.
Castleton x6 pubs … Hope x 3 pubs.
All pubs are dog friendly which is good as a lot of walkers visit the pubs, and all do food as well. There is a fish & chip shop if you prefer not to eat in a pub.
1st Pub – The George
New owners since 2018 and they serve 5 cask ales, a change from what they used to sell as well. the pub is split into 2 rooms, to the right is the food area and to the left is the normal seating part, there is a open fire as well, a small beer garden at the front of the pub.
2nd Pub – The Castle
This is a Vintage Inns pub and is quite a large pub and you can eat anywhere, there is no specific eating area, the pub is split into small cosy rooms, they serve 4 cask ales, and I did notice some Thornbridge bottles in the fridge. The beer garden is quite large.
Pub No3 – Bull Head
This is a Robinsons pub and all the ales are from this brewery, I think there is about 4 or 5 cask ales. Another food pub and also has a beer garden at the back and some tables at the front of the pub, there is also a barn type place outside to sit in.
Pub No 4 – Ye Olde Nags Head
Another food pub and from what I know it doesn’t have a beer garden, but has plenty of seats. They serve 6 ales and you do get a varied selection here.
Pub No5 – Peak Hotel
Another food pub and also has a beer garden at the back of the pub, I believe they do about 5 cask ales. The same people who run the Old Hall in Hope.
Pub No 6 – Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
Another food pub, and they don’t have a beer garden, there are about 5/6 cask ales here and you usually get Peak Ales and a couple of Sheffield breweries.
Hope – Woodroffe Arms
This is a pub I usually miss as its a Greene King and only have a couple of GK ales on.
You can follow them on Facebook here,
Hope – Old Hall
This is a Theakstons pub and is split into 2, 1 eating area and another area to sit in, they have about 6 cask ales on. They also do beer festivals on bank holidays, check out their Facebook page for more info.
Hope – The Cheshire Cheese Inn
This pub was closed when I was out that day, I believe they do about 4/5 cask ales, they have a beer garden, the seating area inside is quite small.
All these pubs are nice and old fashioned with things stuck all-over the walls, if you like those type of pubs this is a pub route for you.
A few of the pubs do accommodation as well if you want to stay over. There are also a few Caverns to visit and a good few walks round Castleton.
