Broomhill has now become a good place to go drinking, with the arrival of The Itchy Pig micropub and The Bloomery getting a new name (was The Place) and a refurb and new keg lines.
So here we go, my review of Broomhilll pubs.
Broomhill Tavern – This has had a lick of paint on the outside, the bar is right infront of you when you walk in, 7 ale pumps are available, 4 facing you when you walk in and 3 round the other end of the bar, expect pumps to repeat themselves here. This is a good pub for weekend football and there are plenty of seats in different parts of the pub. You do find a few wooden tables outside the front of the pub for those warm sunny days. They are not on Twitter but Facebook page is here.
The Itchy Pig – Sheffield `s 3rd micro pub and is a short walk from The Broomhill Tavern on the other side of the road. Like the other micro pubs we have the space is limited and seats and tables are round the walls of the pub. They have 5 hand pumps and always something different when I go in, the staff are very friendly and chat to anyone, with it being a
The York – This pub is part of the True North Brewery family of pubs, they have 8 hand pumps and a couple are normally from True North and the rest are usually a mixture, usually get a nice selection as well. They are popular for food and sometimes have themed events, eg lobster, scollops etc etc, the food area is to the left side when you walk in, always plenty of seats in this pub. They have a small beer garden at the back of the pub. The mens toilet is quite had to find, I know that’s a bit random. Friendly bar staff as well. Facebook page is here and website is here.
Fox and Duck – This has now been taken over again and they have reduced their ale pumps to 5 but have 4 keg ales on and last few visits these have been Thornbridge ales,. You can follow them on Twitter : @broomhillfox
Nottingham House – This is very much a student pub but don’t let that put you off, they have 4 ale pumps and usually have Landlord, Moonshine and Doombar (eek) on. They are famous for their homemade pies which I must try one day. Loads of seating area, and they have some soft seating for you to collapse in. Pool table and dart board are here, they do have some tables round the outside of the pub as well. You can follow them on Twitter; @NottyHouse
The Bloomery – This was called The Place and has had a name change and complete refurb and must say looks a lot better, the pool table has been moved by the end of the bar where the big screen was. There are loads of seating area and allsorts of coloured seats. Food is served here, not yet tried it. They have 3 ale pumps and also 5 keg lines with a short board saying what each one is. You can follow them on Twitter ; @TheBloomeryShef Facebook page is here.
That completes the Broomhill pubs, 6 in total and each one is completely different and all worth paying a visit to.
You can catch the 52 bus here or the 51 which stops near the Itchy Pig.
