Pub 1 – New Barrack Tavern – to get to this one I would catch the tram to Malin Bridge/Hillsborough and it’s a short walk to this pub. Serving 10+ ales and some on keg and this year is an addition of a can/bottle area where you can also sit in. the pub is split into 3 rooms and a beer garden at the back.
Pub 2 – Wellington – I would catch the tram back and get off at Shalesmoor tram stop, it is a short walk to the pub. Now owned by Neepsend Brewery and the pub features about 3/4 of their ales and have guest ales.
Pub 3 – Shakespeare – a short walk to my fav pub of last year. Serving about 8 cask and 4/5 keg lines, they have an extensive bottle/can list which is in the narrow part of the pub, there are 4 areas to sit in with a big beer garden.
Pub 4 – Bar Stewards – just across the road from Shakespeare and have 4 cask and 6 keg with fridge full of cans and bottles, cans tend to be on the hoppy side. Now addition of a beer garden at the back.
Pub 5 – Harlequin – a short walk to this pub with features Exit33 ales and has a couple of guest ales. If you like cider this is the pub to be in, there is approx. 14 cider choices.
Pub 6 – Itchy Pig – best catching the bus from the last pub to this one, the bus 52/52a goes to Broomhill, the only micropub to make my Top10. They have approx 5/6 on cask and 4/5 on keg, a massive board also on the wall of what’s on and what is coming.
Pub 7 – Ecclesall Ale Club – a brisk walk through Botanical Gardens to get to this pub, a new one on the scene on Eccy Rd and has 4/5 cask and same again on keg, plus a couple of fridges with cans/bottles. Lovely seating area and once I am in those soft chairs I cannot get out.
Pub 8 – Beer Engine – best to keep walking down Eccy Rd and head towards London Rd to this place, serving about 5/6 cask and even more on keg. There is also 2 smaller seating areas and beer garden, they do tapas food.
Pub 9 – White Lion – quite a walk to this pub but you could catch from London Rd the bus 43/44. 10+ cask ales here, amongst their regulars there are some guest ales which do vary a lot. Next door is Pour which has all keg lines on and serves pizzas.
Pub 10 – My No1 pub of 2018 – Rutland Arms – serving about 8 cask ales and 5/6 keg lines, serving food as well, a beer garden at the back of the pub.
In these 10 pubs there is approx. 73 cask and 43 keg lines and quite a selection of cans/bottles in some of them which could be as much as 300+
