This pub is My No 1 in Pub of the Year 2016
Typical that my Pub of the Year 2016 is currently closed (Nov16) due to going through a refurb. MY Top10 were based on months March to September 2016.
You will find this pub on Devonshire Street, just down the side of The Forum pub and not far from The Washington.
Food is served here and the menu does look very nice, not eaten in here for a while, always does well for food.
So I went down on Tuesday to take a look at the new look pub, the whole of the inside has been stripped out and started from scratch.
As soon as you walk through the door the bar is now to the right in a big square type shape, the ale pumps and keg line are around the 2 sides of the bar, at one end is 4 ale pumps, another 4 are at the top end of the bar, another 4 ale pumps are across the front of the bar, keg lines spread out as well.
Down the side of the bar is a row of tables and chairs/benches, this is along the front of the pub where all the windows are, then at back of the bar is the beer bottle and another row of tables and seats, then another set of tables and seats across where the old bar used to be.
So what you have a is a squareish bar, I am sure there is a word for it, and round it is seating area.
To the right of the door as you walk in is another area of tables and chairs.
The mens toilets was a shock when I walked in, I will leave this to you when you walk in but wasnt expecting those kind of urinals, one of a kind.
The ale list is now on a board above the entrance to the toilet area, both cask and keg.
I will add pictures when i have some new ones taken.
Although they are famous for their pale ales Abbeydale Brewery are venturing into the sour side, and also love Hop Smash and Last Rites, Lady Ra Ra and starting to get some interesting ales now.
They recently celebrated 20 years of Moonshine and had a Abbeydale complete tap take over on casks and kegs and best night I had in ages. You can read about it here.
