UPDATE – July 2015 – this pub has now got 10 ale pumps
This pub is in the same place as The Old Monk, which was one bar I went i alot, it was a sporty bar with little ales.
Then came along Head of Steam and stripped out the pub and transformed it into a amazing place, its hard to recognise the old pub with its 2 levels and pool tables.
So what do we have now :
a brand spanking new pub.
10 ale pumps which had a couple from Strongarm and a porter and a rhubarb ale, there was 1 cider pump and a line of kegs. I shall be looking with interest on what range they do going forward.
There are still some tv screens so will be interested to know what they will show, snooker is coming up soon so I guess they will be showing it.
There are plenty of seats, the pool tables have gone and turned into a seating area.
The bar is the main attraction, now situated in the middle of the pub, reminds me of some pubs in York which do the same.
Loads of bar staff as well, not sure if this was just for the opening day but easily got served and very friendly staff as well.
I did notice this is a brightly lit pub and loved the bottles with lights in, amazing effect.

The website is here, you can follow them on Facebook here
I would post some pictures of inside the pub but you need to see it for yourself and see the transformation.
The location is great, near the crucible and Lyceum Theatre.
